TOBIAS AND THE ANGEL IN NEW ORLEANS
Tobias and the Angel is an exciting musical event that we are aiming to stage in New Orleans in Autumn 2020. The profits from the production will be split between a selection of local non-profits (TBA).
It's a community production, meaning that as well as professional cast members, people from local neighborhoods - from school children to senior citizens - will also take part. The aim is not only to provide a spectacle for the people of New Orleans to enjoy (with a cast of over 100, it's a huge production) but also to spread positivity and build community, engaging people who otherwise might not have opportunities to participate in a theatrical production of this scale.
Tobias and the Angel is set against a biblical backdrop, but it's not overtly religious. It's an exciting, dramatic and heartwarming love story with a debt to be reclaimed, demons to confront and killer fish to be battled, all in the pursuit of happiness. It is also - and this is especially relevant to the people of New Orleans - about having to leave your home and family life in the aftermath of a tragedy and eventually finding your way home to reclaim your roots. If you love fairy tales or musicals, Disney or opera, we promise you'll love Tobias and the Angel. And it's a perfect show for families.
It's this theme of disaster and reconnecting with your home that makes Tobias and the Angel such a perfect production for the city, even more than ten years after Hurricane Katrina and the failure of the Federal levees. It's why some of the proceeds from the production will help support the work of the St Bernard Project, who work locally to rehouse people directly affected by those events of 2005. Their work continues to this day, and we're proud to partner with them.
It's not going to be easy. It's a huge project with a lot of moving parts and a ton of challenges. We're hoping to give as many young local performers, musicians and crew a chance at being part of something amazing, while still producing a musical experience that people will talk about for years to come.
We're going to need a lot of support, so please visit the GET INVOLVED page and see how you can sign up for news and help us, financially or otherwise.
Below are links for you to find out even more about the story - we think it's one that you'll fall in love with, and we can't wait to share it with you. You can also check back regularly for NEWS AND BEHIND-THE-SCENES GLIMPSES as the production takes shape.
Thank you for your support.
